On 20 November 2012, The Collective Word founder Courttia Newland and Ligali’s Toyin Agbetu hosted Africa in Science Fiction in the Purcell Room at the Soutbank Centre. This original event showcased quality African sci-fi literature and short film. Co-chaired by Words of Colour Production’s executive director Joy Francis, over 150 people heard and saw the works of Biram Mboob, Tosin Coker, Oladipo Agboluaje, Kibwe Tavares (Robots of Brixton) and Wanuri Kahiu (Pumzi).
