The Great Sports Debate

On Thursday 17 October 2013 at Hackney Picturehouse, Words of Colour Productions and Hackney Council’s leisure and culture department hosted The Great Sports Debate 2013 for Black History Month. An audience of coaches, amateur athletes, sports writers, creatives, local people and academics turned up to listen to an impressive panel: 400m World Champion and Olympic gold Medalist Christine Ohuruogu MBE, Hackney resident Margaret Adeoye, 4x400m World Champion bronze medalist, Chelsea FC’s first black football player and award winning sports author Paul Canoville, Michelle Pierre-Carr, former GB international and Commonwealth 4x400m silver medalist, Rodney Hinds, award winning sports editor, The Voice newspaper and Kevin Hylton, professor of equality and diversity in sport, leisure and education at Leeds Metropolitan University.
