The Patriarchs: How Men Came to Rule – In conversation with Angela Saini

On Wednesday 26th July 2023, award-winning science journalist Angela Saini’s fourth book ‘The Patriarchs: How Men Came to Rule’ was the point of discussion with Words of Colour’s executive director Joy Francis. Hosted at Second Home in association with independent bookshop Libreria, Saini shared her writing journey to completing this bold and radical book, which was shortlisted for the Orwell Prize for Political Writing. Saini travelled to the world’s earliest known human settlements to trace cultural and political histories from the Americas to Asia and overturns simplistic universal theories to show that what patriarchy is and how far it goes back really depends on where you are.
