The iconic calypso tune was recorded by reporters upon arrival at Tilbury Docks in 1948. Three years later he officially recorded the song which he had first written on a boat heading for Britain.
Windrush Baby by Hak Baker
Released this year, Baker’s track tells the story of his 17 year old moths travelling from Jamaica to Britain. The song talks about the descendants of this generation then found their own identity on this land.
Calypso Blues by Mona Baptiste
Migrating to England in 1948, Mona immediately began her singing career. Appearign in music magazines, television and radios. By the 50s she was working with bands and jazz groups, which is when she recorded her own version on Nat King Cole’s Calypso Blues.
