Representation, Voice and Agency | The Stories We Tell Ourselves

In the final discussion in the Stories We Tell Ourselves series presented by The Wheeler Centre, Spread The Word Writers and the Melbourne City of Literature Office, Words of Colour’s Executive Director Joy Francis hosted a panel discussion on ‘Representation, Voice and Agency’.

Bringing together publishers and agents from the UK and Australia, the event considers how the publishing industry can better facilitate better representation, access and inclusion, including the importance and power of publishing marginalised, othered, intersectional and indigenous voices, and the value of facilitating and creating platforms for writers of colour to exercise their agency, ownership of their craft, their stories and their narratives.

Featuring Crystal Mahey-Morgan, founder of Own it!; Rachel Bin Salleh, publisher at Magabala Books; Nelle Andrew, literary agent at Rachel Mills Literary; and Grace Heifetz, literary agent at Left Bank Literary.

The Stories We Tell Ourselves is presented with Spread the Word and the Melbourne City of Literature Office and supported by the UK/Australia Season Patrons Board, the British Council and the Australian Government as part of the UK/Australia Season.
