Words of Colour partners with the Middle Way Mentoring project

Words of Colour is a partner on the Middle Way Mentoring project, a two year professional development scheme for Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic writers based in the Midlands.

The vision of publisher (Dahlia Books), academic and writer Farhana Shaikh, 14 writers will receive mentoring for a period of 12 months from an experienced writer, and participate in a series of masterclasses designed to develop the craft of writing.

During year two, writers will begin to focus on completing a portfolio of new writing to send out to prizes, literary journals and to put forward for the scheme’s anthology. Writers will also participate in a series of workshops and talks delivered by industry experts, receive bespoke career coaching and showcase their writing at a number of festivals.

The Middle Way Mentoring project will culminate in a writing conference to be held at Curve Leicester in April 2025.

Other partners on the Middle Way Mentoring project include Bookouture, Curve Leicester, Dahlia Books, The Good Literary Agency, Renaissance One, The Literary Consultancy, Writing East Midlands and Writing West Midlands, and is funded by Arts Council England.
