In conversation with Caroline Shola Arewa and Jackee Holder

27:32

Twenty years ago, Caroline Shola Arewa and Jackee Holder broke new ground by being the first Black Britons to have books published on self help and spirituality by mainstream publishers in the UK. Caroline with Opening to Spirit: Contacting the Healing Power of the Chakras and Honouring African Spirituality while Jackee produced Soul Purpose: Self Affirming Rituals, Meditations and Creative Exercises to Revive Your Spirit. They explain to Joy Francis, executive director of Words of Colour Productions, their writing journey, discuss their legacies and the state of modern publishing regarding the confessional and self help genres – from a Black British perspective – and explore how social media has elevated women of colour’s voices.
