Since 2012, Madani Younis has been artistic director at Bush Theatre, London. Younis is one of the first people of colour to hold this position at a British theatre in London. In 2013 he programmed the theatre’s most successful season to date, which saw the venue play to 99 per cent capacity. In this candid and eloquent interview, Younis tells Joy Francis about his career journey, why and how he champions diverse writing, and why spoken word is one of the most exciting and powerful arts forms.
