Windrush 75 – Alf Lynch on moving to Britain from the Caribbean in 1953

Alphonso Lynch arrived Britain from Jamaica in 1953. A husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and retiree, Alf reflects on moving to the UK at 21 with little money and no contacts, and how he built a comfortable life for himself in Britain. Alf reveals the camaraderie present among Caribbean people in London, the importance of creating safe spaces to connect, play and dance and why despite the occasional police intervention, he has no regrets.
